Sonnige Zukunft Uganda zählt zu den ärmsten Ländern der Welt – und zeigt doch eine bemerkenswerte Gastfreundschaft: Seit Jahren nimmt das ostafrikanische Land Hunderttausende Geflüch tete aus dem Südsudan und der Demokrati‑ schen Republik Kongo auf. In der Flüchtlings siedlung Palorinya, nahe der südsudanesischen Grenze, geht es jedoch nicht nur um Unterbrin gung, sondern auch um Perspektiven. Der katholische Missionar Erich Fischnaller hat dort Werkstätten für Ausbildungsberufe aufgebaut, die jungen Menschen eine Zukunft bieten sollen. Bisher wurde der Betrieb dieser Einrich tungen mit Dieselgeneratoren sichergestellt, dabei verfügt Uganda über eine wertvolle natürliche Ressource: Sonnenlicht. Die Werk stätten werden deshalb künftig mit Solarstrom betrieben, möglich wird dies durch eine part nerschaftliche Gemeinschaftsaktion: Photovol‑ taikanlagen-Hersteller und Elektrotechnikbe triebe aus Vorarlberg und Liechtenstein spen den die benötigten Komponenten für eine leistungsstarke Solaranlage, Gebrüder Weiss übernimmt den Transport der Technik nach Uganda – und gibt einer guten, nachhaltigen Idee starken Rückenwind.
Sunny future Uganda may be one of the world’s poorest countries but it is also a haven of hospitality. For years, the East African country has been accepting hundreds of thousands of dis placed people from South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Palorinya Refugee Settlement near the South Sudan border not only provides accommodation. Its mission also includes improving the refu- gees’ general perspectives and opportu nities. The Catholic missionary Erich Fischnaller has established workshops in which young people can learn the trades they need to build better futures. Until now, the training facilities have been powered by diesel generators. But Uganda has a valuable natural resource: sunlight. So, from now on the facilities will be fueled by solar energy – thanks to a joint campaign by companies from Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein. Manufacturers of photovoltaic systems and electrical engineering equipment are donating the components needed for high-performance solar energy generation. And Gebrüder Weiss is transporting the technology to Uganda. All in support of a bright, sustainable idea that will make a real difference.
