History Gebrüder Weiss is the world’s oldest transport company – it was operating a messenger service across the Alps as early as 1487. The year 2025 is also a special date for the organization: the thirtieth anniversary of Austria’s accession to the European Union. A lot has happened during this period, so we have taken the opportunity here to look back at the company’s recent history. The period begins with a dramatic upheaval, which however paves the way for concerted growth.

Great Britain leaves the EU, which is reduced to 27 member states as a result. Gebrüder Weiss revamps its customs and logistics processes for the UK to accommodate the new regulations.
2012–13 Mit der Gründung eigener Landesorganisationen in der Türkei und Georgien nimmt Gebrüder Weiss Kurs auf die Expansion jenseits des Schwarzen Meeres. Das europäische Landver kehrsnetzwerk wird in den folgenden Jahren Richtung Kaukasus und Zentralasien erweitert. With the founding of its own national subsidiaries in Türkiye and Georgia, Gebrüder Weiss eyes expansion beyond the Black Sea. In the following years, the European land transport network grows towards the Caucasus mountains and Central Asia.
2024 Gebrüder Weiss feiert 30-jähriges Jubiläum in Rumänien und eröffnet in Bukarest ein zweites Logistikzentrum. EU-Beitritts kandidat Nordmazedonien gehört nun seit 15 Jahren zum Konzernnetzwerk. Gebrüder Weiss celebrates its thirtieth anniversary in Romania and opens a second logistics center in Bucharest. The EU accession candidate North Macedonia completes 15 years of partnership in the company’s network.
