Der Mond ist nicht genug Es ist fast schon zur Tradition geworden – im Frühjahr werden bei Gebrüder Weiss die Fahrräder gesattelt und die internationale GWcycles-Aktion beginnt: Radfahren für die eigene Gesundheit, das Klima und den gu ten Zweck! Bei der dritten Auflage der Kampa gne stellt die Rad-Community den bisher größten Streckenrekord auf und radelt gemein sam bis Ende September mehr als 810.000 Kilometer weit. Damit wird das ursprünglich ausgerufene Ziel von 768.800 Kilometern – das ist die Strecke von der Erde bis zum Mond und wieder zurück – weit übertroffen. Ein deutliches Zeichen für den großen Zuspruch, den die Aktion bei Mitarbeitenden und exter nen Radbegeisterten erfährt. Für die 2024 gefahrenen Kilometer setzt Gebrüder Weiss in seinem Firmenwald in Nicaragua 7000 weitere Bäume. Seit der Erst auflage des Radwettbewerbs im Jahr 2022 wurden damit insgesamt 19.000 Bäume ge pflanzt. Wenn sie ausgewachsen sind, sollen sie pro Jahr etwa 285 Tonnen CO 2 aus der Atmosphäre binden.
Return trip to the Moon It’s fast becoming a tradition – every spring, the bicycles are saddled at Gebrüder Weiss and the international GWcycles campaign begins. The entrants are cycling to keep themselves fit and healthy, protect the planet’s climate – and even aid a good cause! In the event’s third edition, the cycling community sets a new route record by covering a grand total of more than 810,000 kilometers by the end of Septem- ber. This far exceeds the originally announced goal of 768,800 kilometers – the distance from the Earth to the Moon and back: an emphatic demonstration of the enthusiasm for the campaign, among both employees and the broader cycling community. To honor the kilometers completed in 2024, Gebrüder Weiss is adding 7,000 more trees to its company forest in Nicaragua. Since the cycling competition marked its premiere in 2022, a total of 19,000 trees have been planted. When fully grown, they are expected to capture some 285 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere every year.

Sustainable power generation Every owner of a photovoltaic (PV) system knows that its output wanes when summer comes to an end in September (at least in the northern hemisphere). This does not, however, diminish its inherent value. After all, PV sys- tems make a significant contribution to climate protection. In this respect, they are increasingly important at Gebrüder Weiss as well. In 2024, the company is installing further solar plants in Hungary and Slovakia, bringing the total num- ber to 34. Together, they have generated 12,630 megawatt hours of electricity this year – equivalent to about half of the electrical power required by all the Gebrüder Weiss locations worldwide. The solar power is used, for example, for interior air conditioning, light- ing in logistics areas, and charging electric
Nachhaltige Stromerzeugung Besitzer einer Photovoltaikanlage (PV) wis sen: Wenn der Sommer im September zu Ende geht (zumindest auf der Nordhalbkugel der Welt), dann nimmt auch die Stromproduktion ihrer Anlage deutlich ab. Doch das mindert nicht ihren grundsätzlichen Wert. Denn PV-An lagen leisten einen erheblichen Beitrag zum Klimaschutz. Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt werden sie auch bei Gebrüder Weiss immer wichtiger. 2024 installiert das Unternehmen weitere Solaranlagen in Ungarn und der Slowa kei und betreibt damit nun insgesamt 34 Anla gen, die in diesem Jahr zusammen 12.630 Megawattstunden Strom erzeugt haben. Das entspricht etwa der Hälfte des Strombedarfs aller Gebrüder Weiss-Standorte weltweit.
