Fiber fabrics Regardless of the cargo being transported, goods must be carefully stowed so that every thing is kept in place while on the move and no-one is put at risk out on the road. Standardized tensioning belts or lashing straps consisting of fabric webbing and a ratchet or cam buckle are em ployed for this purpose. Most are made of polyester, while some use polyamide or polypropylene. The material is indicated by the color of the identification label that has to be sewn into every belt in the EU: blue for polyester, green for polyamide and brown for polypropylene belts. These labels contain various details, including the manufacturer, the date of manufacture and the tensile strength, i.e., the force at which the belt would tear. Belts are checked regularly. In the interests of safety, they must be replaced if there are any signs of damage.
