Gebrüder Weiss has been work ing on automation for three decades. 20 years ago, truck drivers were first equipped with scanners that could be used to send data to internal systems. Back then, this worked via SMS tech on a mobile phone. In the years since, however, Corporate IT has grown into a large busi ness area in its own right. This ensures that all the Group’s organizational units are part of a large network and have access to the IT infrastructure and IT applications they need for effec- tive and financially sound orga nization of their business pro cesses. Having said that, nothing that finds its way to Gebrüder Weiss customers does so entirely automatically; there is always a human keeping a watchful eye on the process – and the ultimate decision-making lies with them.
