24 13 EU-Durchschnitt EU average Loneliness is harmful; it has a notice able impact on quality of life and is as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. And yet almost one in four adults around the world say they experience regular feelings of loneliness. Particularly at risk here are people on low incomes and lone parents. However, studies indicate instances of young adults and people aged 60 and over reporting loneliness are also significantly above average in many countries. The issue of loneliness has attracted the attention of researchers and politicians worldwide, particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic. Various countries have appointed a Loneliness Minister and the World Health Organization (WHO) has Weltweiter Durchschnitt Global average established a Commission on Social Connection with the aim of seeing loneliness officially addressed as a public health issue. However, many people also appreciate the benefits of being on their own by choice – as an opportunity to recharge and realign. In other words, when you feel lonely, what’s missing is not so much com pany per se but the feeling of being “seen” and the sense of connection.
