Sustainability Report 2024

Logistics facilities and buildings

Artificial intelligence (AI) Gebrüder Weiss uses AI to improve processes, employ re- sources more efficiently and support decisions with data. Ex - amples of specific applications include forecasts of shipment volumes, early identification of disruptions in supply chains and automated assistance systems for employees. A Group-wide AI strategy establishes clear general conditions for this – with ethical guidelines, defined fields of use and re - quirements relating to data protection, IT security and training. The aim is to actively help shape the responsible use of AI. Customer CO 2 reporting Gebrüder Weiss uses the EcoTransIT software to calculate transport-related emissions. We make the results – on energy consumption, CO 2 emissions and air pollutants – available to our customers in easy-to-read dashboards and reports. The calculations are based on science-based methods and fulfill the EU requirements on CO 2 transparency at the customer and Group level. One challenge remains the use of secondary data, which does not always reflect actual circumstances. We take different requirements relating to data quality and level of detail into ac- count in an optimal way – and incorporate them in the further development of our CO 2 reporting.

Risk prevention in the digital world Increasing digitalization is also accompanied by an increase in the requirements for data protection and information security. Gebrüder Weiss protects its IT systems in accordance with the highest standards and is certified under ISO 27001. A particu - lar focus is placed on handling personal data responsibly. We consistently implement the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and all relevant national data protection laws. This is ensured by trained contact persons in the specialist departments as well as an extensive training program.

Gebrüder Weiss has defined a uniform construction standard for all new build projects worldwide – with clear requirements for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This standard includes the use of heat pumps, photovoltaic systems and energy-efficient construction materials as well as green spaces. These criteria also serve as a guideline for modernization projects so that we can keep our buildings fit for the future and ensure they comply with climate and envi- ronment protection principles. An example of this is the location in Straubing, which was opened in 2024. The new facility has been built consistently in accordance with our sustainability standard and is fitted with a photovoltaic system, heat pumps and fast charging stations for electric trucks and cars. The location symbolizes our deter- mination to make targeted investments in sustainable logistics infrastructure.
