What influence does Gebrüder Weiss have on biodiversity? Commitment to greater biodiversity

Gebrüder Weiss actively promotes biodiversity – both at its locations and along global supply chains. Our aim is to link environmental quality with functional benefits and to protect biodiversity. At our branches, we focus on green spaces, avoid unneces- sary soil sealing and apply semi-natural design concepts. In accordance with our internal construction standard, new builds will be furnished – whenever possible – with green spaces and green flat roofs. A topical example is the new logistics and IT location in Wolfurt (Austria), which will be erected on around 30,000 square meters of land by the end of 2025. A compact construction method – a 25-meter-high building with an integrated office wing – protects soil resources. Around 9,500 square meters of green area with diverse vegetation improve not only the quality of the environment, but also the well-being of the employees. We also focus on porous materials such as grass pavers in the design of the parking areas in order to avoid soil sealing. Moreover, biodiversity also plays a role in our transport services – for example in connection with the EU Deforesta- tion Regulation (EUDR) or the Renewable Energy Directive. Products such as soy, beef, coffee and rubber are subject to new requirements if they have been produced in regions at risk of deforestation. As a logistics partner, we make sure we comply with these requirements and thus make a contribution to responsible, biodiversity-friendly supply chains.
