History The roots of Gebrüder Weiss stretch all the way back to the end of the Middle Ages. It is well documented that the institu- tion of the Lindau Messengers, also known as the Milanese Courier, was already up and running by the year 1487. These accredited couriers, who included in their number direct ancestors of today’s proprietor families, traversed the Alps on horseback, providing a weekly courier service and enabling important trade relations to be established in the transalpine region. Over the centuries that followed, this courier service gradually developed into a global transport and logistics en- terprise. With a history dating back over 500 years, Gebrüder Weiss is today the world’s oldest logistics company.
Ownership structure Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG is owned exclusively by the Weiss and Jerie families. This ownership structure allows de- cisions to be made swiftly and independently while maintain- ing the character of a family-owned business – despite the company’s global presence. There has always been a strong sense of identification of the shareholders with the compa - ny. With Wolfram Senger-Weiss, a family member serves as CEO. Multiple shareholders are also represented on the supervisory board.
